Evaluation Q3. What kind of media institute might distribute your product and why?

What kind of media institute might distribute your product and why ?

What is distribution ?

Distribution is the process of getting a film from development, into the public eye by the use of big budget global distribution websites and by producers that can afford to simply throw money at a project and make it sell. This is done by creating websites and facebook pages about the film to allow people to get more information about the product, creating television adverts to get people interested. Due to the advances of modern technologies such as the internet and the availability of emails and file sharing a distributor can easily send a copy of there film to a cinema to get it checked without the hassle of having to print out stills or send a large reel of tape. these advances also allow films to be ported to dvd and made available for online download in a fraction of the time meaning that small budget cinemas or people who simply what the film for home consumption can acquire the film shortly after release.
Obviously we can't afford to fund a large budget distribution effort, however this doesn't mean we can't distribute our product in other ways. for example youtube is becoming an evermore valid method of getting a film seen and passed along allowing it to gain publicity and reputation. Here is a list of distribution platforms.

So how would we distribute our product ?

I would choose to use a combination of social networks such as FaceBook and twitter to get the product noticed and allow it to be spread out and establish a small fan-base. From there i would put the video on YouTube to allow people to stumble upon the video and also allow people to share the video and embed it on blogs and websites, this would allow it to be spread by other students or anyone who finds our product interesting. Another way that we could get our product noticed is to take it to a film festival, this would get our product viewed by a larger audience and also possibly get noticed by a small publisher who would be able to help further with the distribution process.
